Quick Update.

We're alive.
Our internet went kaput.
Comcast can't be here until tomorrow evening.  [That's 3 whole days since we called to report the problem.  Great customer service, huh?!  Ugh.]
BarBri has officially started so that's fun...
We finished painting K's apartment and he is officially moved out and moved in.
We'll be back with more updates from the weekend.  It was epic.

Wishing I was still on the Mighty Birch...

Memorial Day.

Have a fabulous Memorial Day weekend!  To me, this is the official start of summer.  We'll be heading north to the cabin.  The best part - Spence and Mo will be joining us from Kansas!

Let's Hangout.

Google+ Hangout is the coolest thing since sliced bread.  Seriously.

This week I was able to catch up with my best friends from college.  I couldn't stop smiling and laughing because it was just like we were all together again.  This is the perfect way to chat with friends and family who are far from home!  Minnesota, Tennessee, Mississippi, Maryland, New York, and Florida brought together without the hassle of travel.  That's not to say this is better than a real-life reunion.  But it will do until next time!

My fabulous former co-workers used Hangout also to rehash our recent escapades to Arkansas.  Here we had Minnesota, Florida, New York, Missouri, and California representing!

We had to try out the Google Effects.  Yes, we are nerds.  But we get each other and that's the most important thing.  They let you layer effects so at one point there was a cat with a beard and an eye piece.  And that's where I lost it and couldn't stop laughing!

Modern technology is just amazing.  Who would have thought we'd be able to video chat with multiple people, from all over the world, at the same time?  I can't wait to see what Google comes up with next! (Full disclosure: I'm obsessed with Google.  Gmail, Reader, Chrome, Blogger, etc.  I love it all.)

Summer Storms.

I love summer storms.  I love the lightning, the thunder, the giant raindrops.  I love it all.  But I especially love the moments before the storm.  When the sky slowly gets darker and darker.  How the wind will pick up.  The neighborhood gets quiet as people head indoors.  I love it.

Tonight we're expecting a storm.  Nothing too big, a little rain, a little thunder.  Nothing like the storms that will come later this summer.  Just a little preview.

While I was out checking out the storm rolling in, I had to check on my peonies.  Peonies are my absolute favorite!  The big one near the door is almost ready to bloom.

But over on the side, one is already bloomin'!

And my volunteer irises are looking so pretty!

Of course, I had to bring some of the loveliness inside!

Irises and peonies...does it get any better?!

Still Moving.

Moving is exhausting.  We've taken numerous trips back and forth and there is still a ton of unloading and unpacking to do!  During our week "off," we've worked full time, hauled the Green Monster to the yard waste dump (twice!), shopped for a tree to replace said monster (still looking), represented The Center for Girls' Leadership at the PhilanthroFair, worked barbri registration, and moved K's stuff.  Whew!

So, what have you done this week?!  Happy Saturday!

The Green Monster.

We have a situation.

As you can see, the house is flanked by these two shrubs.  The one on the right isn’t terrible.  It needs a little trimming, but other than that, it marks the property line and looks pretty decent.  The one on the left, however, is another story.

The other property line is divided by a hedge that is overgrown.  Last summer, Kurtis and I launched the first attack against the hedge and trimmed a huge section of it away.  People, it used to touch the ground, the house, everything!  It was a mess.  Our next on the hedge is to continue to trim up and get that mess in order.  But that’s another day.

First things first.  For three years, I have been hating on this shrub/tree.  It’s awkward, ugly, and takes over the front yard.  And on Sunday, Kurtis and I decided it was time to cut it down.

Here we go!

My turn to do a little chainsaw action.  Note: Sunglasses work great as protection eyewear.

And then, there was just a stump.  We worked for about an hour on the stump alone.

It’s about halfway gone. But we want to get the whole thing out of there because we have big plans for the front yard. Like beautiful flowering tree big plans. But more on that later.

Since our streets are getting torn up this spring, my goal is to see if I can use my recently acquired lawyering skills to persuade the workers to use their big machines to pull the rest of the stump out.  Wish me luck!

done.

The sun is shining, the drinks are delicious, and school is over.  Life is good.
A huge thank you to everyone for their support over the last three years.  Never could have done it without you.
