Wedding Wednesdays: Engagement Announcement

I love this picture.  I took it moments after we decided to tell my parents that we are getting married...and told them we weren't ready to tell anyone yet. Then we hopped on a boat cruise with our best friends and enjoyed an amazing sunset.

Giggly and giddy and full of promise.  That's how this moment felt.

100 Days.

I'm so excited to share some stellar news with you today. K and I are getting married in September!  100 days to be exact.

The past 2 1/2 years have been so amazing and I am constantly grateful to have him in my life.  We are thrilled to be getting married.  We've spent the last year talking seriously about marriage and our relationship and how we work together now and in the future.  Relationship-building, if you will.  It's kind of our thing.

For us, a wedding is just the frosting on the cake. We'll be celebrating 3 years exactly from our first date and frankly, I think that's pretty special.

I'm not turning this into a wedding blog but it is a blog about life [my life] so there will be some wedding talk.  I hope that's okay with you.  Personally, I like wedding talk. Growing up, I always wanted to be a wedding planner.  Damn that J.Lo. And my love of event planning continues. So yeah, expect more frosting.

Anyway, we're pumped! 100 days. Let's do this!

The Wolf of Wall Street.

Holy crap, you guys.  I'm so excited to see this movie! DiCaprio. Scorsese. Weird Matthew McConnaughey. AND Jonah freakin' Hill.  OMG.  I'm dying.

Just watch.

I've watched this trailer twice already. I love the part where Leo dances. I. Can't. Wait. November come quickly!

Insta-Cabin.

A couple weekends ago, K and I finally kicked off our summer at the cabin.  Between work and other things, we just haven't been able to get as many weekends in as we would have liked. August will be our month to make up for it though!

Here are a couple Instagram pics from our trip up north:

Birch trees on the drive up.
Blurry but delicious caprese salad
A few of my favorite people at my favorite bar
A perfect ending to a perfect weekend
The cabin just captures my heart.  Do you have a special place like that?

Blueberry Crisp.

The other day I had a hankerin' for some dessert.  Usually I go for chocolatey goodness like cookies or blondies, but not this time.  I was craving a dessert that screams summer.  Enter: Blueberry Crisp.

I'm not going to lie - this was delicious. Between K & I, it was gone by the end of the weekend.  Truthfully, I'm surprised it lasted that long. Let's just get right to it.

Blueberry Crisp
adapted from Betty Crocker's Cookbook, circa 1981 (truth)

2 1/2 cups frozen blueberries
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup gluten free all-purpose flour
1/2 cup gluten free oats (I use the Trader Joe's kind)
1/3 cup butter, softened
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Heat oven to 375*F.  Pour frozen blueberries into an un-greased pie pan.  Spread evenly.  Sprinkle with lemon juice.  In separate bowl, mix the rest of the ingredients together.  Sprinkle topping evenly over blueberries.  Bake 30 minutes.  Topping should be light brown and blueberries are hot and bubbly.  Optional and totally recommended: serve with ice cream.  Let cool a bit before devouring.

I'm definitely going to make this again and try it with other types of frozen berries.  We have a berry mix (rasberries, blackberries, and blueberries) that I think would be divine. Yum!

Let me know if you get your crisp on this week!  Enjoy!

Alex

Pinspiration: Anne of Green Gables

Last week, pinspiration (Pinterest + Inspiration = Pinspiration) struck.  I was scrolling through the recent pins on my home page and I ran across 4 images pinned by the lovely Amber at Arbitrary Ambrosia.  The way the images were clustered immediately reminded me of Anne of Green Gables.

I loved to imagine I was Anne growing up and with Amber's pins, this is how I imagine a modern Anne.  I also think it's about time I reread this series.

Have you found any pinspiration lately?

xoxo,
Alex
