Book Suggestion: The Kitchen House.

Hi there!  I am pleased to announce that I am out of my reading slump!  For the last couple months, I just couldn't find my rhythm with reading.  I would fall asleep without finishing a chapter or was stuck reading a dud.  It was so frustrating!

But then, I read The Kitchen House: A Novel by Kathleen Grissom.  It lit a fire in me and reminded me how much I love reading a good book.  Here's the Goodread's summary:

When a white servant girl violates the order of plantation society, she unleashes a tragedy that exposes the worst and best in the people she has come to call her family. Orphaned while onboard ship from Ireland, seven-year-old Lavinia arrives on the steps of a tobacco plantation where she is to live and work with the slaves of the kitchen house. Under the care of Belle, the master's illegitimate daughter, Lavinia becomes deeply bonded to her adopted family, though she is set apart from them by her white skin.

The Kitchen House: A Novel  is often suggested if you liked The Help, but I think it stands alone as an excellent choice for your next read!

Have you read The Kitchen House?  What did you think?

xoxo,
Alex
